Information doesn’t come in “versions” but the digital community likes to invent names. And Information 4.0 is the latest buzzword in the world of communication. The information architects are talking about this a lot. You’ll also hear a lot about how artificial intelligence is going to impact your business or organization. The computer scientists have lots to say on 4.0, too.
But moving beyond the smoke and mirrors, personal interests, and professional politics, the answer is simple.
There are two sides to this coin: Providing content people understand, providing the (often unseen) content machines understand, and providing the context between bits of information that help them be understood correctly. There is nothing magical about any of this. But business leaders need to understand why these things are important and make sure someone actually does the work. Those who do it first are the ones who will succeed in business – today and in the years to come.
I want to clear away the smoke and smash the mirrors.
